James George Frazer (1854) Scottish scholar, anthropologist and classicist, was born in Glasgow. He attended the Glasgow University and Trinity College, Cambridge. His outstanding position among anthropologists was established by the publication in 1890 of The Golden Bough. He was knighted in 1914 and died in Cambridge in 1941.
