Rupa’s phenomenal journey began very modestly nearly seventy years ago. In 1936, D. Mehra, the founder of Rupa & Co. flagged off its journey at Kolkata’s College Street with two slim volumes of Bengali poems. There was no turning back. Today, Rupa is one of the largest publishers, distributors and importers of books in India.

Rupa innovates and sets new trends by doing things that have been hitherto ignored in the publishing industry. In appreciation of this, the acclaimed film maker Satyajit Ray designed the Rupa logo, and all he asked for in return were some books!
